Indiana Collegiate Conference record – 8 wins and 0 losses.
A dazzling .322 team batting average, highest in Greyhound history, was the team’s major strength. Sophomore shortstop Mickey Sisk was the team’s top hitter with a .405 average. Sisk set a conference record for batting at .579 in 8 games this season.
Second baseman Craig DeMeyer (.396), outfielder Gary Judy (.364), third baseman Steve Montgomery (.345). outfielder Gary Rowe (.344) and catcher Ken Brooks (.339) were other regulars over .300. Dave Wood (.375) and Bob McMillan (.278) shared first base playing time. Montgomery led in hits with 20 while DeMeyer drove in the most runs (17).
Bright now has a lifetime record of 240 wins against 186 loses in 16 years as the Greyhound mentor.
Brooks, the 6’2”, 210 pound power-hitting freshman from Greenfield, hammered out a team high of 4 home runs and scored 17 times, also a club best.
Steve Bohnert, a freshman from Cathedral, struck out 47 hitters in 36 1/3 innings on his way to a 5-0 season. Seniors Don Hecklinski (4-1) and Jeff McGuire (3-1) were other pitchers for Coach Bill Bright.
